KHF_PORTRAITS_006-HR-e1541643458420-201x300It is with a heavy heart that the Kang Haggerty family announces the passing of our beloved colleague and friend Ajit Phillips. Ajit joined Kang Haggerty three years ago as Controller, but he was much more than that. His passion, commitment and expertise set an example for everyone here.

Despite being in ill health for the last few months, Ajit continued to try and come to work—out of loyalty and care for us all. His sudden passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts. Our deepest condolences to his wife, Rashmi, and Ajit’s extended family. He will be missed.

Kang Haggerty associate Tianna Kalogerakis was recently named to the Philadelphia Tribune’s annual “Philadelphia’s Most Influential African Americans” list. The Tribune, the nation’s oldest and greater Philadelphia’s largest newspaper serving the African-American community, honored this year’s recipients during a reception and awards program at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Kalogerakis was also featured in New Phila. Barristers’ President Stresses Legacy, Community Service, in ALM’s The Legal Intelligencer. In an extensive Q&A with reporter Max Mitchell, the newly-elected Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia president discusses the balancing act between heading the 1,000-member strong bar association and transitioning from judicial clerk to litigation boutique attorney at Kang Haggerty LLC.

Kalogerakis was installed today as President of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. The installation ceremony was held at Philadelphia City Hall and presided over by the President Judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

Ms. Kalogerakis has been an active member of the Barristers’ Association since 2013, previously holding positions as President-Elect, Vice President of Administration, Chair of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Memorial Breakfast, Corresponding Secretary, and Young Lawyers’ Division Executive Committee Liaison.

With this position, Jacklyn looks forward to integrating more deeply into the NAMWOLF community, becoming more involved with members of the Financial Services Litigation PAC, and working with her co-chair, Sarah Oquist of the Minneapolis based Sapientia Law Group, PLLC, to grow the PAC in size and presence.

Tianna received her J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, where she also earned a certificate in trial advocacy. She graduated with a B.S. from the University of Florida. Prior to joining Kang Haggerty, Tianna served as a judicial law clerk in both the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas (to the Honorable Lillian Harris Ransom).

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tianna concentrates her practice on commercial litigation and business disputes such as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and business torts. She is admitted to the practice of law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Kang Haggerty Associate Kandis Kovalsky was recently appointed to two Young Lawyer Division (YLD) leadership positions within the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) and the Philadelphia Bar Association. She will serve as the liaison between the Federal Courts Committee and the YLD of the Philadelphia Bar, and as liaison between the YLD and State Civil Litigation sections of the PBA.
In her capacity as liaison to these committees, Kovalsky will attend governing counsels, participate in events, and interact with leadership of these committees within the statewide and city bar associations. She is expected to serve in an important two-way communications role in keeping young lawyers informed of important work in the Federal Courts and statewide civil litigation issues, and providing the committee with insight as to concerns of young attorneys in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.
